A medley of some of our favourite sea songs and shanties: Fiddler’s Green, Haul Away Joe, Leave Her Johnny, Roll The Woodpile Down, Sunny Sailor Boy, Fare Thee Well (Ten Thousand Miles)
Roll The Woodpile Down (a capstan shanty)
Capstan shanties were sung while raising anchor, and during other tasks that involved winching heavy loads.
Leave Her Johnny (a pump shanty)
This shanty was often sung during the last round of pumping the ship dry once it was tied up in port, before the crew finally departed at the end of the voyage.
Fiddler’s Green is the legendary sailor’s afterlife. This folk song was written by John Connolly.
Sunny Sailor Boy
A song by Luka Bloom.
