Welcome on Board!

Welcome on board with The Lost Quays and prepare for the calm and the storm, with shanties and other songs of the sea!

The Lost Quays are a vocal group based in the port of Fremantle, Western Australia. Formed in 2015, our crew sing largely a cappella but with some guitar, mandolin and accordion. We perform with energy and good humour, and relish a strong audience connection. As well as traditional material, and nautical folk material from around the world, our repertoire contains original songs, including local Australian tales. Our introductions often give insights into maritime history.

Our recent performances include festivals in Fremantle and Western Australia’s premier folk and world music event, the Fairbridge Festival, onthe south coast of WA, at the Denmark Festival of Voice, and a sell-out show in Perth’s 2018 Fringe World. In 2016, we gave performances at the Dirk Hartog 1616 Commemoration in Shark Bay in the north of WA, commemorating 400 years after the first European to set foot on what is now the western coast of Australia.

Coming up in late August this year is our first European tour, with appearances at one of Europe's biggest shanty festivals, Bie Daip, in Appingedam, The Netherlands.  Then off to the UK to meet up with the Wareham Whalers and Exmouth Shanty Men, and at the Lyme Folk Weekend. After that we'll be at the Hafenfest in Papenburg, northern Germany. See News and Events!

The Lost Quays also host a monthly informal Shanty Club at Clancy’s Fish Pub in Fremantle – a very informal evening where joining in the shanties is definitely encouraged.
